The Voice is an American reality talent show that premiered on April 26, 2011 on the NBC television network. Based on the reality singing competition The Voice of Holland, the series was created by Dutch television producer John de Mol. It is part of an international series
The show's innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance. During the blind auditions, the coaches decide they want to groom based solely on voice and not on looks. During the battle rounds the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience.
Then the coach must choose which singers will advance to the live performance. In this stage, the top contestants from each team will compete against each other. The television audience will vote to save one contestant on each team. At last, each coach will have his/her best contestant left standing to compete in the finale. Only one will be named "The Voice" - and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract and $100,000.
The Voice. Premieres Aug 21, Every Sun, 8pm (SG/MY/PH/HK) in Astro AXN
